Nautical
Being the landlubber that I am, I have been slow to kindle my interest in nautical affairs in the Northwest. However, I have been drawn to boating images recently and thought to start showing a selection here. Initial images are from Japan, Port Townsend, Fidalgo Island, and up the coast into British Columbia. Locations and shooting notes are in the captions.
I would especially recommend the Seaview North Boatyard in Bellingham and the Center for Wooden Boats in Port Townsend to other photographers. Serious reconstruction work is done in both places by skilled boatmen, larger and smaller vessels respectively. Careful visitors are welcome, but ask for permission first.

Oarai I
Fishing boat as (failed) restaurant in Oarai, Japan, June 2004. Shot with Kodak HIE infrared film in 35 mm format with 20 mm lens. Note slight reticulation of sky image due to elevated (and non-recommended) developer. It's interesting here, but the rest of the roll was pretty much trashed. As a traveler, I was at the mercy of a large film lab and trying to convince them to do it my way while still learning Japanese. Subsequently, I was able to talk them into using a gentler process on this film.
