Metro Madness
Metro Madness!
Remember when cars got 35 mpg and the gasoline price was 24¢? Metropolitans, imported from England with fun four cylinder engines, offered an alternative to the chrome and bulk trends of the Eisenhower years. Many have been lovingly restored and, now and then, venture out for a pleasure ride. Most of the restorations go back to the authentic color schemes, but some are just for fun: “Nan’s Purple Haze” or Bob’s mini-SUV creation, for example.
Bob and Jan Black hosted a rally of Metropolitans at their Whidbey home with cars coming from surrounding states and Canada. The group graciously invited me to join them for some pictures on a fine, sunny day. The images in this gallery are from that occasion.
Thanks to all for your cooperation!
