Figure Studies
The first three thumbnails are studio shots from 1994, illuminated with large flash lighting units. Angel was a hard-working mother of two who was available for short term employment near my studio in Denver. I printed these as 16x20s or larger, using a little soft focus diffusion in the process.
The second and third trios are from a workshop under the auspices of the Coupeville Art Center in 2008 and taught by Margaretta Mitchell. The site was the historic Crockett Barn. These are with window light only, so shutter speeds were slow, depth of field very shallow. In the first set I printed the images as the full frames as shot originally. Because this was a group shoot, I had to shoot from a greater distance than I would have preferred. Recently, I reprinted these with tighter cropping to capture the essence of the images a little better. I think they work better this way; what's your opinion? On the last three (Crockett Tree I and II and Morning Stretch) I could direct the shots so these are printed close to or at full frame.
